On the 20th April 2016, the LVD 2014/35/EU (Low Voltage Directive) of the European Parliament and of the Council relating entered into force. This directive applies to electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits introduced to the EU market.
Scope of the LVD 2014/35/EU?
The LVD Directive applies to any electrical equipment and components designed for use with a voltage rating between 50 and 1000 V for alternating current (AC) or between 75 and 1500 V for direct current (DC).
Main changes
The Low Voltage Directive has introduced the following changes:
- The solely manufacturer’s responsibility for affixing the CE marking is compiling technical documentation and drafting the EU declaration of Conformity (DoC);
- Internal production control is the conformity assessment procedure whereby the manufacturer fulfils the obligations laid down in the directive;
- The scope of the LVD Directive includes also the protection of health of people, animals, and property
- Market surveillance procedure has been added to ensure stricter compliance;
- Manufacturer’s responsibilities regarding placing the products on the market (in particular requirements for traceability and market surveillance) are more precisely defined and reinforced.
