In April 2024, the Official Journal of the European Union published Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/996, introducing updates to the EU Cosmetics Regulation. The amendment addresses the use of various substances in cosmetic products, including those with potential endocrine-disrupting properties.
Update to Annex II
One of the key changes is the addition of 3-(4′-methylbenzylidene)-camphor [INCI: 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor] to Annex II—the list of substances prohibited in cosmetic products within the European Union.
Approaching compliance deadlines
- From 1 May 2025: Cosmetic products containing 3-(4′-methylbenzylidene)-camphor may no longer be placed on the Union market.
- From 1 May 2026: These products may no longer be made available on the Union market.
Beauty brands are advised to review product formulations and ensure compliance ahead of deadlines.
