UK Cosmetics Market: banned CMRs – April 2025

April 20 All day

On October 3, 2024, the United Kingdom took a significant step toward tightening cosmetic safety by notifying the World Trade Organization (WTO) of a draft amendment to its GB Cosmetics Regulation.

This update introduces 13 more chemicals to the growing list of banned substances, all of which are classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic, or reprotoxic (CMR).

This move follows an earlier major shift in 2024, when 52 CMR chemicals were banned through the same legislative change. However, it’s important to note that there are still 13 substances banned in the EU that remain legal in the UK, leaving room for further regulatory alignment.
