The Machinery Directive 98/37/EC, mandatory since 1st January 1995, covers machinery, sub-assemblies and safety components. In the interest of the safety of European Citizens and setting a standard of high quality for products entering the European Market, the European Commission requires that manufacturers selling machinery, sub-assemblies or safety components in the European Economic Area meet the Harmonized Standards for design and safety. These standards address a range of areas from the comfort of the operator to local representation of the manufacturer.
